CO2 Politics

Carbon dioxide (CO2) primarily from the burning of fossil fuels is the primary greenhouse gas (GHG), responsible for roughly 83% of global warming. About 86% of the U.S. greenhouse gas emissions are energy related, and 95% of the U.S. emissions from energy is CO2. Carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel combustion worldwide increased from 14 billion metric tons in 1970 to 22 billion metric tons in 1999, and projected to reach 36 billion metric tons in 2020. According to President George W. Bush- June 11, 2001 (see President Bush Discusses Global Climate Change)for details "We all believe technology offers great promise to significantly reduce emissions -- especially carbon capture, storage and sequestration technologies".
